Beth A. Scheimann, in Her Own Words

I started swimming when I was 12 in the little town of Ottawa, Ill. I continued swimming until I completed college at Furman University, in Greenville, S.C. While at Furman I achieved All-American status each of my four years. By the way, this is where Angel Martino swam. I am good friends with her and her husband as I swam with her husband while attending Furman. Angel competed there after I graduated. Upon completion of college in 1984 I stopped swimming until 1991 to explore other sporting activities. During this time I learned how to snow ski, and am still standing and using my original limbs. I also played soccer, volleyball, and softball.

After college I landed a job at Union Carbide, which is now KEMET Electronics. I have worked at Union Carbide/KEMET for a total of 13 and 1/2 years now. I am currently a program analyst.

I have, at one time or another, in the past four years recorded two world records. One in the 100 short course meter breast and one in the 200 short course meter breast. I do not believe that either is currently still a record though. But I am out to hopefully set more as a new age group is quickly approaching. I also hold numerous national records in the breaststroke events.

I train in the pool 5 days a week approximately 5,000 short course meters per day. I also supplement my swimming with weight training two days a week. Our swim team is growing rapidly, and I also compete at USS meets.

I am married and have two cats. One cat is three years old and is named Bustipher Jones. The other is named Gizmo and is 13 years. The two get along well, when they want to.
