U.S. Masters Swimming Dorothy Donnelly Service Award

Leslie’s involvement with USMS began 20 years ago as a coach. Ten years later, she founded Greenville Splash, a South Carolina team, which grew from 4 to 100 swimmers. Leslie served as Head Coach, Head Ambassador, Meet Director for the South Carolina LCM Championship Meet, Webmaster, Newsletter editor, and all-around volunteer extraordinaire. She promoted fitness events through a number of outlets, including hosting SmartyPants Vitamins fitness events and 1-hour ePostals. Leslie created an inclusive environment for the fitness swimmer, triathlete or more advanced competitive swimmers to all enjoy workouts together. She also mentored coaches at facilities to help them introduce and provide effective programs. Leslie created a team website and distributed the team’s monthly newsletter, which includes recognition of the Swimmer of the Month and team celebrations. She organized the Upstate Splash Charity Open Water Swim to raise funds so at-risk children could be provided with swim lessons. Leslie also helped organize a local ALTS event that taught 170 adults over 3 years.
