Barbara Dunbar’s contributions to USMS date back to 1988 when she was an Ad Hoc Rule Book Committee member. She has served and chaired the USMS History & Archives Committee for 20 years, starting in 2003. Barbara also served on the Records and Tabulation Committee from 2004-2014. Under her leadership, the History & Archives Committee worked to ensure that all records were up to date.
Locally, Barbara served as the chair, membership coordinator, sanctions chair, and Top 10 chair for the San Diego–Imperial LMSC. She has run over 100 meets and helped her LMSC find the all-important officials to help meets run. When forUSMS meets were scarce in the past, Barbara was instrumental in establishing her LMSC's Officials Certification Program. The LMSC was subsequently recognized as an official certifying body by USMS, and the certification/recertification curriculum was used as a template by USMS. She herself became a certified official, reaching thereferee level.
Barbara's swimming accomplishments resulted in her being inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2000 and into the Masters International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2003.
