Illinois LMSC board member, Michael Hillegonds, served as chair of the LMSC’s History/Awards/Hall of Fame Committee. At the National level, Mike served on the USMS Recognition and Awards Committee for three years and as the committee’s Club of the Year Award subcommittee chair. In his LMSC, Mike established the Illinois LMSC Hall of Fame in 2023 for Illinois Master Swimmers whose major contributions were to the LMSC in volunteer roles. He wrote biographies and a history of Illinois Swimming for the website. He hung two banners on the bleachers at the Illinois State Championships, organized a dinner, and presented plaques. Mike’s cheerfulness, energy, passion, enthusiasm, and respectfulness are appreciated by the Illinois Masters. They are very grateful for his contributions.
