Ida Mae Hlavacek

Ida Mae Hlavacek had total left knee replacement in December 2002 at the age of 60 and in April 2003 she did a lifetime best in the 1650 placing 10th nationally. Then in 2003 she had spinal surgery. With two discs removed and titanium plates and screws in place she bettered her 1650 time in 2004. Swimming was and continues to be her physical therapy.

Ida started swimming competitively at the age of five and qualified for the 1956 US Olympic team tryouts at the age of 14, but decided not to compete for financial reasons. Swimming for DC Masters in the Potomac Valley LMSC she consistently placed in the USMS Top Ten and became a relay All-American in 2002. She lives in Arkansas and swam for Arkansas Masters 2000-2001, for DC Masters 2002-2003 and for Virginia Masters Swim Team from 2004 to the present (2007).
